We are welcoming people to the farm with measures in place to provide an enjoyable and Covid-safe, outdoors experience.
We have a number of volunteer placements available on Wednesdays and Fridays. These replace our original drop-in sessions. Volunteering is specifically exempt from national lockdown measures.
We have started to once again run free Mindfulness Garden sessions for over 50s & carers of over 50s on site. Attending a support group is exempt from government lockdown measures. Email email@example.com to register your interest and be informed when places become available.
We hope you are coping well with all of the changes and uncertainty. Stay connected to nature as best you can and remember you are not alone.
Best wishes from the Horton Community Farm team, Charlie, Jonathan, Maryam and Laura.
We are now able to welcome back a limited number of volunteers in a Covid safe manner. Please read about how volunteering will operate during the Covid19 pandemic at this link. More info on applying here.
Volunteering at Horton Community Farm (HCF) is an opportunity to gain experience of organic growing and site maintenance as well as sharing your knowledge and experience with us. Enjoy working outdoors, learning new skills, meeting new people, adding to your CV and all while making a real difference to a fantastic urban green space. Tasks include planting, harvesting, watering, digging, weeding, cutting back, mowing and hedge trimming.
We hope to hear from you! Long term, we aim to make our services accessible to as wide a range of people as possible. If we can’t accommodate you at this time we will be in touch in the future when we have more capacity.
***The Mindfulness Garden Online email is currently taking a break while we welcome back participants in the programme to the farm.***
During this challenging time we would like to help our community stay connected even at a distance. We therefore invite you to sign up to our Mindfulness Gardening Online email produced in association with Leeds Mindfulness Coop. Each week there will be a Mindfulness Exercise and Nature Connection Activity, as well as tips for staying well such as sowing, growing, foraging, recipes and remedies. The first edition is here.
We are holding an open day on the farm with lots of fun activities to get involved in so get the date in your diary. So far there will be kids nature activities, green woodworking, ‘Plenty’ icepops and mushroom growing workshops. We will also be offering short mindfulness and gardening activities to introduce people to the benefits of mindfulness and gardening.
If you would like to run an activity on the day we may be able to fund time and materials so please get in touch.
Part of the Bradford Fringe Festival.
We are back on site from Wednesday 9th Jan 2019 10-2pm. See our volunteering page for more info. A great way to blow the cobwebs away!
An amazing urban green space based at Cecil Avenue Allotments in Great Horton, Bradford. You’ll be surprised at all the food growing and nature smack bang in the middle of all the Yorkshire stone terraced streets. We have veg beds, an orchard, compost toilet, classroom and a large area for the birds, bugs and wilderness. For the most up to date info see our facebook page.
